Red Queen

Red Queen (Red Queen, #1)Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Overall, I liked the idea of this book. No longer wanting to fight a war for somebody else’s cause the Reds decide to rebel against the “special” and all powerful Silvers. Meanwhile, Mare, a Red destined for consignment to fight in the war, discovers that she has her own surprises and gets caught up in a revolution. I did have one problem, Mare. She has the potential to be such a strong female character and yet she isn’t. I thought that the supporting characters had more substance to them. She argues that she is not a pawn in anybody’s game, yet that’s just what she allows herself to be. She expects everybody else to come to her rescue and is always sure that she’s met her end. I hope in the rest of the series that she comes into her own and becomes the character that she has the potential to be.
