Secret Coders

Secret Coders (Secret Coders, #1)Secret Coders by Gene Luen Yang

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Hopper is starting at a new school and when she tries to introduce herself she is greeted by obnoxious boys who make fun of her, an angry janitor with a mysterious locked shed, and still ends up finding a friend and on their way to solving the schools hidden secrets by using coding.

I admire Yang & Holmes’ efforts at introducing coding in a fun way. While I recognize that this is intended for a much younger audience than Boxers and Saints, I still felt that the story line was a bit lacking.

One thing that bothered me was the principal and the teacher. Clearly Hopper was upset about something and instead of the teacher being concerned she dismissed her and sent her to the principal’s office. Clearly the principal had an unhappy encounter with his previous guest but I felt that his reaction was completely unrealistic.
